Privacy Policy
Draft. This page is being reviewed by an attorney and may change. It describes how this website works today.
Charleston Downsizing Specialists is a small, locally owned business in Summerville, South Carolina, run by Luke Moling. This page explains what information we collect when you use this website or work with us, what we do with it, and how you can see, change, or delete it.
What we collect
- When you send a request: your name, email, phone numbers, the address of the items, what you’re selling, your photos, your timing, how you’d like to be reached, and how you heard about us.
- When you have an account: the above, plus your mailing address if you add it, your password (stored scrambled, never readable), and when you last signed in.
- Messages: what you and Luke write to each other on the site, by email, or by text.
- When you accept an offer: the name you type to sign, who you said you are to the items, the date and time, your internet address (IP), and the type of device and browser. This is the record of your agreement.
- At pickup: how you were paid (for example a check number), the name you type to confirm, and a photo of the room after the items are out.
- Your choices: whether you agreed to texts, marketing emails, or photos in our advertising, with the exact words you saw and when.
How we use it
To look at your items, arrange a visit, make and keep a record of offers and purchases, pay you, send receipts, answer your messages, and send the emails and texts you’ve agreed to. We use it to run and protect the website. We don’t use it for anything else.
Who sees it
- Luke. Only Luke signs in to see customer information, with a password and a second step on his phone.
- Companies that run parts of the website for us: our web host (Railway), our email provider, a text-message provider if you’ve agreed to texts, and an error-reporting service (Sentry), which receives technical details of errors with your personal details removed. Our pages load their typefaces from Google Fonts, which sees your internet address when a page loads.
- Another professional, only if we refer your project. If your project is a better fit for an estate sale company or another buyer, we pass your details to them and tell you, including whether they pay us a referral fee.
- Photos in our advertising, only with your permission, and only photos of items we bought from you: never photos of people or of anything that shows where you live.
We don’t sell your information, and we don’t share it for anyone else’s advertising. We would disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- A request that didn’t lead to a purchase: deleted 2 years after it was closed, photos included.
- Copies of emails and texts: deleted after 2 years.
- An account with no requests that hasn’t been used: deleted after 2 years.
- Purchases, receipts and signed bills of sale: kept 7 years, because businesses must keep purchase records for taxes. After that, the personal details on them are removed.
- Records of what you agreed to: kept 5 years, as proof of your choices.
Your choices
- See or change your details under My details when you’re signed in, or ask Luke.
- Stop texts by replying STOP, or in My details. Stop marketing emails with the unsubscribe link in any of them.
- Delete your account under My details, or ask Luke. Your account, requests, photos and messages are deleted right away. If we bought from you, the purchase record is kept for taxes, with your contact details and photos removed.
- Get a copy of what we have about you: ask Luke.
Cookies
We use one cookie to keep you signed in and to protect forms from misuse. A request you haven’t sent yet is saved only in your browser tab, and it’s cleared when you close the tab or sign out. We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.
Security
The website only works over an encrypted connection. Photos are stored privately and are shown only to you and to Luke. Links in our emails stop working after a set time.
Children
This website is for adults. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes and questions
If this policy changes, the version number at the top changes. We keep a record of which version you agreed to. Questions or requests: call or text (262) 765-6238, or reply to any email from us.
